Movie Review No.21: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

This image is hilarious.

Well there’s only one film left to go in this series of reviews after I’m done here and that is, of course, X-Men First Class. They say that all journeys have their ups and downs. That to reach the light we must first go through the darkness… or some hippy crap like that. We’ve certainly been through the darkness with X-Men The Last Stand (Still can’t believe how long I made that review, really sorry) and now we have, well more darkness. But you know what? Wolverine isn’t as bad a film as X-Men 3. It’s certainly not as bad as many people would have you believe. It’s dumb as feck but it’s not a total car crash. So, on with the review I guess.

SNIKT!!! or something.

Movie Review No.20: X-Men: The Last Stand.

So you’re in charge of a major movie franchise, The last 2 films were hits with the second blowing everything out of the water success wise. You’ve hit a snag though. The director of the first 2 films has a prior engagement and has literally thrown the script for the third film in the bin. He’s asking for the time to go make this other film he has lined up and then come back and do the usually risky third part of the series properly when he’s back. What do you do? Miss a summer release opportunity but with the pay off that you know the film will likely be very good when made and bring in a ton of cash or do you hire the first hack who’s willing to root through a bin the keys to the vehicle that is the X-Men? If you’re 20th Century Fox apparently you do the latter.

Movie Review No.19: X-Men 2

If the first X-Men film was an attempt to reinvigorate the comic book movie genre then X-Men 2 was an attempt to take it too another level. Quite often sequels can fall into a number of traps. Being too similar, not expanding the universe enough, being too cautious in an attempt to not push away fans. X-Men 2 does none of these things. Everything about this film is bigger than the first, I think Wolverines claws even got longer, and it’s all the better for it. So no mystery as to what I think of the film, it’s a good’un. Hopefully though you’ll read on to read just what makes it so good.

Movie Review No.18: X-Men

So here’s the deal. I like The X-Men. I like them a lot. Been a fan since I was knee high to a juggernaut, even before that 90s cartoon series. One of my favorite heroes when I was a small kid was Iceman. God knows why cos he kinda sucks. But that same kid liked The Ultimate Warrior and thought he was the best wrestler ever so that kid was dumb. Anyway, this weekend I shall be reviewing all of the X-Men films in chronological order of release. So tonight is obviously the turn of the first film in the series. For some reason I’ll even be reviewing X-Mn Origins Wolverine although I may need a stiff drink before approaching that one. Anyway, on with the show and all that.

Trailer Park Thursdays: Surprise Movie Trailer Edition.

Why is this a surprise trailer edition? Watch the first trailer to find out. After that we have potentially the most painful kids film since The Chipmunks with the trailer for The Smurfs and after that a trailer for the X-Men movie, the old one, not the new one. See starting Saturday I will be reviewing each of the X-Men films on each night ending on the 1st June with X-Men First Class. From now on I’ll be trying to get a lot more new release films reviewed. maybe one every Sunday. We’ll see how it goes. For now, click the link for trailer based goodness.

Coming Soon To A Film Dump Near You!!

At the end of the month I shall be embarking on a special themed week here on The Film Dump. As you may be aware there’s a few comic book based summer movies out this year and the most likely one to be lost in the shuffle that isn’t called Priest is X-Men The First Class. Now I do reckon this will be good stuff. Matthew Vaughn is a solid director and Bryan Singer is producing the film so it should be in good stead. But I can’t just go and review this film on it’s own. So what i shall be doing over the 4 days prior to me seeing First Class is reviewing the 4 X-Men films in order, one a night. This is gonna be fun because without giving too much away there will be vitriol saved up for those last 2 films. Hopefully none will be needed for First Class which kinda blew my socks off with it’s last trailer. So, hit the link to see the latest X-Men First Class trailer and subscribe to my blog so you can be told when the reviews start popping up.

It’s a commentary on racism and and the holocaust. Whoops, should have saved that.
