One thing I really like about Fincher’s films is that quite often he has these really cool title credit sequences. They’re a forgotten art in film making. Ever since George Lucas decided his films didn’t need credits at the start of them the idea of creating a audio-visual piece of art to get people revved for the film started to flounder. I’m not saying all films need them of course, but it is a nice treat to see when done well. One of the best I’ve seen recently belongs to Fincher’s latest, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. the only way I can describe it is that it is like James Bond title sequences discovered S&M and got coated in a big dollop of dark. I reckon Fincher would get a kick out of making a Bond film too. Maybe this is his way of trying to get their attention. Click the link to see the video!
So yeah, pretty awesome right. I love the Immigrant Song cover by Karen O and Trent Reznor, have it on my itunes and everything. Visually it represents plenty of the films elements in this dark S&M style. Edited together real well too. I think I might make a post about title sequences in films at some point. Maybe on a week when there’s no decent trailers about.
Arrietty review coming in the near future BTW! Almost up to review number 100 too! What will it be!!!???
