Been a busy week for movie trailers. Already posted the new Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows trailer and George C Scott viewing the trailer for Jack And Jill. Luckily I’ve still got a few spare for today. We have confusingly title The Thing, confusing because it’s a prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter film of the same name. Then I’ll follow that up with John Carter (Formerly Of Mars), Contagion, a new Tintin trailer, Final Destination 5 and, as always, something retro. Click the jump yo.
First up the trailer for The Thing. I’m liking the tone of this trailer but I really need to see a red band version of it. I wanna see how gruesome the titular Thing gets because that’s a huge part of the 1982 film for me. It was the body horror of it that I loved. Probably got me obsessed with David Cronenberg thanks to it making me become a little engaged with the idea of body horror movies. anyway, watch it.
Here’s the trailer for John Carter based on one of the earliest sci-fi novels, A Princess Of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Originally this film was due to be called John Carter Of Mars but for some reason they dropped the “Of Mars” part which really makes no sense. Now it sounds like some movie about a dude who’s probably a lawyer or something. John Carter Of Mars sounds more like a sci-fi epic that this is. Hopefully it turns out good.
Next up is Conatgion which as the title suggests is about a contagion. Something to do with bird flu I guess. Don’t know too much about this but it’s got a strong cast and is directed by Steven Soderbergh so it’s gonna be worth a look. It also actually doesn’t look like Outbreak, which is good.
And here’s the trailer for The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn. Long title that. The film has quite the writing pedigree behind it in the forms of Joe Cornish, Edgar Wright and Stephen Moffat. Looks like a good bit of adventurous fun, just as it should be.
Now here’s Final Destination 5 which is just as tired looking a format as you’d expect it to be. The first film was fun nonsense with a nice concept but now, 5 movies in, I can’t help but feel that this is just a film made to have things thrown at us in 3D. Meh.
And now we come full circle with the trailer for The Thing From Another World. This is the 1951 original sci-fi Horror movie that John Carpenter’s was based on. It’s a great piece of classic movie watching. If you have any interest in old fashioned sci-fi this is a must see.
Tomorrow night I’ll be seeing Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2. Hopefully I’ll have time to get a review up but it’s a late screening I’ll be going to and I have work the next day so it may be delayed until Saturday. After that business as usual returns. I’ll likely be reviewing Ip Man first. Not seen it before and I’ve heard nothing but good things.
